Blog #13

Galen when writing that man lives and has many selves, all I could think of was how much I myself have changed as a person. When confined to a one narrative, often people find themselves planning far into the future. We shape our own stories as well, we can twist things to fit who we are now and change it when we decide that isn’t who we are today, ” I for one have no clear sense of who or what I am” (Galen).  Existence has always been something I would try and wrap my mind around, and every time I feel more lost. Narrative helps people stay on the path of what life is and how it always has been. You begin to not question who you are until bad happens, and change occurs. This is usually for the positive but when changing you maintain a part of your old self. Maybe we do not have many lives in one lived, but instead many versions of who we are.

  1. Lily- I really like your take on what Strawson said in his essay. I loved how you incorporated how you view our “many lives” as many versions of who we are. I think you bring up some interesting points.

  2. Lily, I have to completely agree with you on your stance and beliefs in this post. We all change and have different versions of ourselves. The belief that we have different versions of ourselves is something I believe to be true. While we do change throughout our lives, a part of us from the past, or who we were stays with us. Again, I completely agree with your stance, I also want to quickly address at howe well you executed the post. You were clear and concise with your word choice and I could not find a single error within this.

  3. You drop some serious wisdom in Blog #13. I sure hope you turn some of this into a poem! I hadn’t made this connection: “When confined to one narrative, often people find themselves planning far into the future.” I can absolutely see this as true. (Again, let me know about those annotations.)
